What are the two types of snowboard bindings?

When the retention system is released, the pins can be pushed down into the frame to lock them in place. To release the binding, the rider simply pulls up on the retention system to release the pins. (NOTE: at the time this article was published, Burton was the only brand to offer step-in bindings for older kids)
